Windows 10 – Laptop not shutting down?

Shortly after the upgrade of Windows 10, I found a small bug in that my laptop wouldn’t completely shut down altogether? My current machine is a Dell Inspiron 7537 but after some short research I found I wasn’t alone with this problem.

Situation is this, I’d shut down the laptop from Windows as normal and the screen would go blank but my keyboard backlight remained on and every so often the fans would kick in as if the machine was powered on.
I headed to the Dell Support site and done an update of all my drivers but this problem remained. I tried a few different options within Windows with little success and then I found the problem.
Follow the steps below…
  1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
  2. Under the System Devices section, expand and find Intel Management Engine Interface.
  3. Right-click Intel MEI and select Properties.
  4. Go to the Power Management tan and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”.
  5. Click OK and simply close the other open windows.

Did it work for you? I’d be interested to hear – worked a treat for me!
