Not many people are aware that you can do this, and it makes an otherwise unused application that comes as part of your system a really handy tool. You may already know that you can sync your Google (Gmail) calendar with your iPhone/iPod/iPad – well by doing it on your Mac/OSX also you can be completely sync’d throughout all of your devices.
The steps to do this are made easier by Apple as iCal will pull the server settings from Google automatically – I’ve covered this step-by-step below and have also linked to a video guide that I prepared.
- Launch iCal on your Mac.
- Select the iCal menu and then select Preferences.
- Click on Accounts and then click the + to create a new account.
- Leave ‘Account Type’ at Automatic. Enter your Google Username/Password.
- Click Create.
- Job done!
